These are Grade 2 Morels, they do not look nice at all, and are broken or missing the tops. Please understand we offer these at a lower cost because they taste the same as a grade 1, but they are not acceptable in appearance for a grade 1.
Morels, also known as Morchella, sponge mushroom, pinecone mushroom and more are a delicacy with many uses; fried, stuffed and baked, added to sauces, sautéed, stir fried and many other uses. The dried morel reconstitutes very well, coming back to it’s original form very well. It takes 8-10 pounds of fresh morels to make 1 pound of dried.
To Reconstitute: Soak in a cup of warm water or liquid per ounce of dried morels for 20 minutes or overnight. When they are fully reconstituted, strain through a coffee filter or paper towel and retain the liquid for your recipe or future use. Rinse well to remove any debris and pat dry and use.
Grade #2 morels are a great substitute for the grade #1 morels for dishes and uses that do not need a perfect looking mushroom. The lower priced morel has the same taste as the grade 1, but they are broken, holey, brown and just don't look nice. Price is per pound. Please be aware that the #2 morel does not look nice!
